Meet Our Staff

EF Foundation host families are special people. Although they come from different parts of Australia, they are connected by shared values of friendliness, dedication and a desire to do a world of good. We are happy to share the inspiring stories of how international exchange has changed their lives!

What a great experience!

We are going to miss our chosen one very much, and wish him every success in his future.

Maureen was at work one Tuesday with 5 mins till clock off time ,unable to start a new project decided to have a quick look in the local paper. The first thing to come to my notice was a delightful young mans smiling face heading a request for a loving home for the year whilst on exchange from Germany. “Yes I can do that” I thought so decided to ring our local coordinator Annette, unable to contact her at the time and now on a mission decided to ring straight to Sydney to register my interest. The wheels were now in motion, by Thursday night we had a visit from Annette and Sheralyn to check out our request. All was great and because of our work we already had the clearances etc needed to host a student. We could possibly have our new family member by the next Thursday, yes just in time for fathers day.

Then started the greatest few months experience, we could not have wished for a better match. Theo the newest family member fitted into our lives like he had lived here with us forever. We are the age of his grandparents and our married children and grand children all live very close to us so have been able to share the entertainment and outings with us School for Theo has been a step back in time for us as a family, as we were lucky enough to get him into Cardijn College, where our children went to school several years ago, although it is now much larger the love and care is still tops.. There have been lots of outings with our children and grandchildren the first being our Royal Adelaide Show and several trips to sporting matches the footy and soccer I think we may be guilty of brain washing where footy and soccer are concerned go the Power and Adelaide united. Fishing off the local coast and Kangaroo Island a couple of weddings and a lot of local sites.

We have done meet the rellies on Kangaroo Island and taken in the sites of our beautiful Island, a trip to the river land meeting more rellies. Theo tried out the water sports behind the speed boat, a few sore limbs the next few days but a lot of fun. A year 11student retreat a year 11 formal and year 12 camp have also been on Theo’s agenda. A trip to Tassie was a highlight in Theo’s stay.

As a family we have had the best time sharing our year with such a delightful young man, it has been a most rewarding time for all of us, Theo has joined in so well with not only us but our circle of friends and work mates, young and not so young have come to love him and his great sense of humour. Theo has been a great example of German youth and should be very proud of his impeccable manners. We are looking forward to Theo’s family members arriving to stay with us in June prior to their trip up the east coast on their way home.

We are going to miss our chosen one very much, and wish him every success in his future.
